Golden Tigers host youth football camp

As Russellville begins preparation for its first season under Head Coach Dustin Goodwin, it’s not too early for future Golden Tigers to begin learning as well.

Goodwin and the Golden Tigers staff will host a youth football camp Tuesday, July 16, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Golden Tigers Stadium. The camp is for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade and costs $50 per child.

“It’s a great way for the kids to learn some fundamentals of football and to get to know many of our players,” Goodwin said. “Most of our guys looked up to Russellville Golden Tigers when they were these kids’ age. So we believe they will have fun learning from and interacting with our players and coaching staff.”

Goodwin is no stranger to Russellville football, having served here as an assistant coach during one of the most successful runs in state history, and knows how important the program is to the community.

“Tradition like we have here is not something that happened over night,” he said. “It’s something that is important to a lot of people so we want to build on that and keep it growing even stronger for years to come. I believe that working with kids in our community and showing them skills and the work that is necessary will help us in keeping that tradition alive.”

The camp will feature instructional skills from the Golden Tigers staff as well as current team members, but will also include plenty of cool, refreshing fun following the evening’s camp. Inflatable water games will be set up for the campers to enjoy.

“We want them to come in ready to learn and work, but we also want to have fun,” Goodwin said. “We believe it will be a rewarding and fun time for everyone.”
