Lelion Shewbart

Lelion Shewbart, 88, passed away Dec. 21 at his residence.

He was born in Alabama and was an equipment mechanic for 40 years, having retired from TVA. He was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He loved his church and his church family. He loved visiting with friends and family and making his rounds in town, especially Piggly Wiggly and Swamp John’s, where he was known as “mayor” of Burnout. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as Franklin County commissioner for four years.

Services will be Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, Vina, with Bro. Danny Stanford, Bro. Billy Quinn and Daryl Gober officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Willodean Shewbart, Vina; four children, Dorothy Gober and husband Donald of Vina, Genice Owen and husband Marlon Farris of Hamilton, Janice Irvin and husband Rodney of Hamilton and Danny Shewbart and wife Renee of Vina; nine grandchildren, Daryl Gober, Dorinda Edwards and husband Kenneth, Shannon Owen, Leah Bowden and husband Paul, Dana Rives and husband Daniel, Derek Gober and wife Bethany, Aaron Shewbart and wife Katie, Keri Wyatt and husband Houston and Adam Shewbart and wife Hope; 12 great-grandchildren, Madison Bowden, Kaylyn Bowden, MaKenzie Edwards, Miles Edwards, Bailey Ann Gober, Davis Gober, Trager Shewbart, Traysen Shewbart, Mason Rives, Wesley Rives, Willow Wyatt and Emily Shewbart; and three step-great-grandchildren, Paul Bowden, Robert Bowden and Anna Rives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Shewbart Sr. and Lottie Thorn Shewbart; two brothers, Walter Shewbart Jr. and Hoyt Shewbart; and one sister, Locene Shaddix.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Gober, Derek Gober, Shannon Owen, Aaron Shewbart, Adam Shewbart and Forbus Shewbart. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Edwards, Daniel Rives, Paul Bowden, Houston Wyatt and James Shewbart.

Visitation was Dec. 22 beginning at 5 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.
