Tharptown boys sweeps Tanner

The Tharptown Wildcats started and ended the week on good notes. Tharptown opened last week with a 12-9 win over the Colbert County Indians but lost games two and three of the series, 0-10 and 4-16. The Wildcats closed the week with a sweep of the Tanner Rattlers, 15-5 and 17-7.

In game one, one could understand if Tharptown Coach Shannon Benford was a a little on edge. On the mound for his Wildcats was his stepson, Britton Kennamore. On the mound for Colbert County was his son, Ethan Benford.

Both pitchers had good outings, with Benford striking out six Tharptown batters and giving up two earned runs and Kennamore striking out six Indians and giving up four earned runs.

In the end, Tharptown would come away victorious, 12-9.

Jackson Clement had a hit and two RBIs and scored two runs. Jayden Mitchell had a hit and an RBI and scored twice. Colton Simmons had two hits and scored two runs. Hunter White had two RBIs and scored a run.

Tharptown struggled in game two of the series, losing 10-0.

In game three of the area series, Tharptown led 4-3 after four innings, but Colbert County would score 13 unanswered runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Greyson Studdard had two hits, an RBI and a run. Colton Simmons had a hit and an RBI and scored a run.  Kennamore had two hits and an RBI.

In game one of the Tanner series, Tharptown scored seven runs in the second inning to cruise to a 15-5 win.

Hunter White got the win pitching five inning and striking out four batters.

Jayden Mitchell and Studdard scored three runs each. White and Carson Petree scored two runs each.  Jackson Clement had three RBIs, and Kennamore and Petree had two RBIs each.

In game three of the Tanner series, Tharptown pounded the Rattlers 17-7 in five innings.

White and Studdard scored three runs each. Mitchell and Travis State scored two runs each. Studdard also had three RBIs.
