Splash pad opening heralds holiday weekend

Russellville area children will soon have a new place to splash around and cool off. The excitement for a city splash pad has been building for some time – and the opening day has at last arrived.

Originally planned to open July 4 last year, Russellville’s splash pad, located between the John Blackwell Sports Complex and Sloss Lake on Highway 24, has seen its share of setbacks. The new attraction is now finished and ready to kick off Memorial Day weekend with a grand opening celebration Friday at 10 a.m.

“We are excited to get the City of Russellville’s splash pad opened for Memorial Day weekend,” said Russellville Mayor David Grissom. “This is something we’ve wanted for our kids for many years. Our children will be able to enjoy this for many years to come. We give a special thanks to Pilgrim’s for their very generous donations to make it happen.”

Splash pad regular hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The splash pad will be open Memorial Day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., as well.

There is no charge for admission.

Splash pad rental is $50. To schedule a rental or for other information, call 256-332-8770.
