Phil Campbell shuts out Carbon Hill for homecoming

Phil Campbell had a sweet homecoming win over the Carbon Hill Bulldogs Friday night 28-0.

The Bobcats were able to overcome four turnovers and 120 yards in penalties with a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense to shut out the Bulldogs.

Phil Campbell had 423 total yard of offense, with 222 coming on the ground and 181 coming through the air.

Senior quarterback Kyle Pace completed six of eight passes for 181 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Sage Raper caught three passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. Raper had a long touchdown reception negated because of an uncalled-for block well behind the play. He also got work done on the defensive side of the ball, leading the team with nine tackles.

The Bobcats got their first score of the game on a nice throw and catch from Kyle Pace to Jacob Barnwell for 34 yards. Barnwell adds another weapon to the Bobcats arsenal, returning from an injury that has kept him out the first half of the season.

Bryant Hyde added the two-point conversion run, giving Phil Campbell an 8-0 lead just 19 seconds into the game.

The Bobcats scored again late in the first quarter on a 93-yard touchdown pass from Pace to Sage Raper.  An unnecessary block behind the play took the points off the scoreboard and set the Bobcats back just outside the red zone.

Eventually, Phil Campbell scored anyway on the first play of the second quarter when Gage Baker pounded his way into the endzone from three yards out to give the Bobcats a 14-0 lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, Pace connected with Sage Raper for a five-yard pass with 7:24 to go in the game to give the Bobcats a 20-0 lead and essentially put the game away.

Phil Campbell then capitalized on a Carbon Hill turnover the next series. Pace found Robbie Robbinson for a 33-yard touchdown pass, and Pace converted the two-point play to give the Bobcats a 28-0 lead.

Madison Branch was crowned Phil Campbell’s 2022 Homecoming Queen at halftime.

The Bobcats will host Lauderdale County in a big region match Friday.
