Tharptown teams down Colbert Heights

BOYS

Malachi Minor dropped 20 points on the Colbert Heights Wildcats this past week to lead Tharptown to a 63-50 win.

Colbert Heights jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 32-24 at halftime. Tharptown, however, came storming back in the third quarter, outscoring Colbert Heights 16-2 to take a 40-34 lead. Tharptown held off Colbert Heights in the final period to secure the win.

Dylan Valdez followed Minor with 17 points, making three three-pointers.

Edwin Vela and Hunter Motes scored nine points each. Jackson Clement added six points, and Dalton Maldanado chipped in three points.

Tharptown fell short in a comeback attempt against East Lawrence, losing 65-58. Minor led Tharptown with 15 points, while Vela and Dylan Valdez scored 12 points each.

GIRLS

The Tharptown Wildcats varsity girls team easily beat Colbert Heights last week and also lost to East Lawrence.

Tharptown dominated the Colbert Heights Wildcats, winning 49-20. Sarah Mansell and Kaitlyn Simmons were both double-digit scorers – Mansell with 14 and Simmons with 10.

Tharptown led Colbert Heights 12-5 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 33-8 at halftime. Tharptown cruised in the second half, outscoring Colbert Heights 16-12 to get the win.

Following Mansell and Simmons were Kyndall Morgan with six points, Savannah Romans with five points, Autumn Montgomery with two points and Alyssa Abbott with two points.

In the East Lawrence game, Simmons led Tharptown with 14 points, followed by Montgomery with 11.  The Eagles edged the Wildcats 43-42 in a back-and-forth game.

Harleigh Borden scored nine points and went four-for-four from the free-throw line down the stretch. Alyssa Abbott and Kyndall Morgan scored three points each. Savannah Romans added two points.
