Steven H. Stubbs, a native of Neshoba County, has written a book honoring local people who served in the armed forces.
The well-organized, 866-page book contains more than 200 photographs, a roster with biographical sketches of 3,676 Neshoba County soldiers, a list of officers and major medal winners, more than 200 stories, personal accounts and letters home.
One of those stories is of the incredible rescue of Lt. Imogene Kennedy and thousands of prisoners at Santo Tomas prisoner of war camp near Manila, Luzon, Philippine Islands.
Kennedy, a female Red Cross Nurse, was 22 years old when she sailed out to war. Later, four of her brothers would join her in service.
Stubbs has also written "For My Children," a history of his family and its ties to the Revolutionary and Civil wars, and "Duty, Honor, Valor, The Story of the 11th Mississippi Infantry Regiment."
He has a master of business administration degree in financial accounting from Loyola University. He retired at the end of 1995 after a 32-year career as a money manager and chief executive officer of two financial service organizations. He is an historian by avocation.
Stubbs and his wife, Mary Ann, live in Philadelphia. They have three children and four grandchildren.
