Northeast boys beat out four teams at home meet

The Northeast Trojans won a boys cross country meet on Saturday in Meridian. Northeast totaled 38 points to beat out Newton's 41, Quitman's 44 and Union.
Union's Jeremy Talbert finished first in a time of 19:54. McElvin Shepherd of Quitman was second in 20:25. Northeast had runners place third and fourth.
David Young was third with a time of 20:26 while Jorge Corral was fourth in 20:50. Alex Curry was seventh in 21:15.
Quitman won the girls meet with 28 points. Northeast was second with 51, Newton third with 73 and Union had 84.
Melissa Brentz set a new school record by winning the individual race for Northeast in a time of 13:16. Sharon Martin of Newton was second in 14:28. Denisha Williams of Quitman was third in 14:49.
